Ahafo Police Arrest Three Over Illegal Firearm Possession, Foil Suspected Robbery Plot

The Ghana Police Service in the Ahafo Region has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and for allegedly preparing to commit robbery.

The suspects have been identified as Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba, 20.

Arrest During Stop-and-Search Operation

According to the Ahafo Regional Police Command, the arrests were made on February 22, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m. along the Ayomso–Goaso Road during a routine stop-and-search exercise by a regional taskforce patrol team.

Police said Mawutor and Ofori were spotted riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso, near Goaso. Upon noticing the police presence from a distance, the suspects allegedly switched off the motorbike’s headlights and made a U-turn in an attempt to flee.

The patrol team pursued and arrested them.

A search conducted on the suspects revealed an AK-47 assault rifle with serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, concealed in a bag they were carrying.

Additional Weapons and Items Retrieved

The police later led the two suspects to their residences at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso, where further searches were conducted.

In Johnson Mawutor’s room, officers retrieved:

  • One Beretta Bruni pistol (MOD. 92)
  • One NM157-1941 pistol
  • Thirty (30) rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • Fifty (50) rounds of AK-47 ammunition
  • Four Motorola handsets
  • One Contiso F35 drone
  • One machete
  • One bayonet knife

All the items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

Parcel Picked Up from Techiman

Preliminary investigations indicate that earlier on the same day, at about 3:00 p.m., Johnson Mawutor allegedly asked his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, to accompany a friend, Mohammed-Adinan Ussif—who is currently at large—to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel on his behalf.

Police say Ussif entered a house in Techiman and returned with a parcel packaged in a wine-coloured polyester bag. He then sent Dogba to the Goaso lorry station and placed him in a Toyota Voxy minibus bound for Goaso with the parcel.

Upon Dogba’s arrival in Goaso, Mawutor and Kelvin Ofori allegedly met him and took possession of the parcel.

Later that night, at about 11:30 p.m., the suspects were intercepted with the bag containing the AK-47 rifle and ammunition while heading towards Ayomso.

Ongoing Investigation

The police say efforts are underway to arrest Mohammed-Adinan Ussif and any other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged criminal activity.

The three arrested suspects are expected to be put before court and remanded to assist with further investigations.

The Ahafo Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and urged members of the public to volunteer credible information to aid in the fight against crime.
