The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two trucks carrying 152 bales of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances and arrested three individuals in connection with the case.
The operation took place on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 5:20 p.m., when officers on duty at the Assorkor barrier near Shama stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12. The vehicle was found loaded with bales believed to contain narcotic drugs. Upon spotting the police, the occupants of the truck fled the scene.
Shortly after, a 44-year-old man identified as Moses Kwaku Tawiah appeared at the barrier and claimed ownership of the impounded truck on behalf of his brother. He reportedly pleaded with officers to release the vehicle but was arrested for further questioning.

During interrogation, Tawiah allegedly admitted that he was actually in charge of another truck — a Hyundai Gold with registration number GS 3368-17 — also loaded with similar substances and parked at Nkroful, near the Block Factory in Sekondi. Police, accompanied by the suspect, proceeded to the location and found the second truck parked as indicated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that each bale contained approximately 80 slabs of a compressed substance suspected to be narcotics.
In a related development, at about 2:00 a.m. on February 23, 2026, two other suspects — Isaac Kwame Kontor, 44, and Kwabena Forson, 55 — reportedly arrived at the same police barrier with an amount of GH¢69,000.00, allegedly in an attempt to bribe officers to secure the release of the trucks. The police accepted the money as evidence and immediately arrested the two men.
Both trucks have since been impounded, while the GH¢69,000.00 has been retained for evidential purposes. The three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Western Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and other related criminal activities in the region.
