Alleged Assault on Adisadel College Student After Inter-Schools Sports Event

The Central Regional Police Command is investigating an alleged assault involving students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School and Adisadel College following an inter-colleges sports festival in Cape Coast.

According to police, on 20th February 2026 at about 7:30 p.m., authorities of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School reported to the Kotokuraba Police Station with six juvenile students over their alleged involvement in an attack on Rexford Owusu-Ansah, a final-year student of Adisadel College.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred earlier that day at about 3:30 p.m. at Pedu Junction, shortly after the final event of the inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim was reportedly leaving the stadium with two friends when they were approached by a group of students who allegedly asked if they attended Adisadel College. The group is said to have attacked them shortly afterward.

While the victim’s two friends managed to escape, he was allegedly overpowered and assaulted. The attackers are also accused of taking his iPhone 17 Pro Max, an amount of approximately GH¢1,400, and his shoes.

He was initially treated at the stadium clinic and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he received further medical attention. He was discharged on Sunday, 22nd February 2026.

A police medical report endorsed by a medical doctor indicated a serious injury to the victim’s right eye, which has affected his ability to open it.

The six juvenile suspects have been arrested and detained to assist with investigations. The victim’s two friends have reportedly informed police that they are able to identify the individuals involved in the attack.

The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the act of violence and assured the public that due process will be followed, adding that the matter will be handled in accordance with the law.
