The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the deadly robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea Football Club team bus, which resulted in the tragic death of player Dominic Frimpong.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District. The attack, which targeted the team during their return journey, sparked widespread concern over the safety of football teams traveling across the country.
In a major breakthrough, a joint police operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, and the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands led to the arrest of two suspects on April 15, 2026, at Atimatim in Kumasi.

The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” believed to be the gang leader, and Bawa Gideon. According to police reports, the suspects attempted to flee upon being confronted and opened fire on officers, prompting a response from the security team before their eventual arrest.
Items retrieved from the suspects include a pistol loaded with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a locally manufactured weapon (“blantine”), pepper spray, desert boots, several mobile phones, and a black pullover.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly admitted to participating in multiple robbery operations, including attacks at Nkawie, Fufuso, and the assault on the Berekum Chelsea team. He also named three accomplices—Dauda, Huefe, and A.T.—who remain at large.
Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has officially declared the three remaining suspects wanted and is appealing to the public for credible information that could lead to their arrest.
Police authorities have praised the coordinated efforts of the officers involved in the operation, highlighting their professionalism and dedication. They also expressed gratitude to members of the public whose cooperation played a key role in advancing the investigation.
Meanwhile, police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The two individuals in custody are expected to be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of players and officials in Ghana’s domestic football, with calls growing louder for enhanced security measures during team travels.
