Nollywood Actor Okemesi Dies After Prolonged Illness

Nollywood actor Oluwatope Bamidele Saint, widely known as Okemesi, has passed away after a prolonged battle with illness.

The news of his death was announced by fellow actor Jeff Owolewa in an emotional post shared on Instagram. In the post, Jeff disclosed that Okemesi’s body had been deposited at the morgue, adding that further details regarding funeral arrangements would be communicated later.

“With a heavy heart, I am announcing to the world that Oluwatope Bamidele Saint, Okemesi is dead. We have taken the body to the morgue and I will communicate the rest of the arrangement to you guys,” Jeff wrote.

Jeff also expressed gratitude to fans and well-wishers who supported the late actor financially and emotionally during his difficult period. He noted that many supporters contributed funds to cover medical expenses and help secure improved accommodation for him.

Okemesi’s death occurred shortly after he was discharged from the hospital and relocated to a new apartment reportedly secured through donations from fans.

Providing details of the events leading up to his death, Jeff explained that Okemesi had earlier been hospitalised and was discharged on Friday. He was subsequently moved into the new apartment arranged by supporters. According to Jeff, the actor appeared cheerful and excited about starting afresh in a better environment.

“He was vibing, he was happy. He was all over the house,” Jeff recounted. He added that Okemesi ate his meal and took his prescribed medication before going to bed.

However, the situation reportedly took a sudden turn on Sunday night when Jeff received an urgent call indicating that the actor’s condition had worsened. By early Monday morning, Jeff arrived at the residence and found that Okemesi could barely move. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital for emergency medical attention.

Doctors at the facility reportedly advised that he be transferred to another private medical centre in Igando for further treatment. They proceeded to the General Hospital Igando, where they sought admission. According to Jeff, they were informed that no beds were available and were advised to seek care elsewhere.

With limited alternatives, Okemesi was returned to the hospital in Ogun State where he had previously received treatment. He was readmitted, and Jeff noted that his breathing initially improved.

Despite the temporary improvement, the actor later slipped into a coma. In an earlier update shared before announcing his death, Jeff had informed supporters that Okemesi was in a coma and urged prayers for his recovery.

His passing has since sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and fans across the entertainment industry.
