Three (3) individuals have been arrested by police officers during routine patrol operations in the Wa West District for openly carrying firearms and ammunition without proper licences.
The suspects, identified as Yahaya Samad (27), Adams Alhassan (37), and Yiritang Boosi (35), were spotted by the patrol team holding single-barrel guns and cutlasses, posing a potential threat to public safety. Upon noticing the approaching police vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee, but were promptly apprehended by the officers.
A search conducted at the scene led to the seizure of three (3) single-barrel guns, three (3) cutlasses, and twenty-three (23) BB cartridges from the suspects. During interrogation at the police station, the trio confessed they did not have licences to bear the firearms and ammunition.

The suspects have been remanded by the Wa Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, and are expected to reappear on February 18, 2026. Police are continuing efforts to apprehend additional suspects who escaped during the incident.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended the professionalism and vigilance of the patrol team and warned the public, especially individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms, to regularize their weapons or face strict action. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the region and called on the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.
