The Wa-Bolgatanga Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana has marked the first anniversary of the Diocese with a thanksgiving service and carols to recognise the faithfulness of God in seeing the Diocese through one year of its existence.
The anniversary was observed across the Diocese under the theme, “One Year of Celebrating God’s Goodness,” on the fourth Sunday of Advent, which was on the theme: “The Uniqueness of Christmas,” drawn from Isaiah 7:14.
The anniversary service was premised on the scripture, Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel.”

A statement issued by The Rt. Reverend Isaac Justice Arhin-Yorke, the Bishop of the Wa-Bolgatanga Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, said the one-year milestone was a testament to God’s faithfulness.
The statement indicated that the anniversary was marked across the Diocese with various social and evangelistic activities to reflect the Church’s commitment to holistic ministry.
At Wa and Bolgatanga Circuits, Sunday School children and members of the Diocesan Guild visited the Wa Central Prisons and the Navrongo Prisons, respectively, where they donated assorted food items to inmates.
In Bolgatanga, the Circuit also embarked on street evangelism, sharing the gospel and distributing packed food to members of the public.
Other activities included health education sessions on the causes, effects, and prevention of hypertension, as part of efforts to promote healthy living among members of the church and the public.
Reflecting on Christmas, the statement described the season as a unique celebration of the “Word of God made flesh,” stressing that the birth of Jesus Christ embodied love, compassion, peace, and goodwill towards all humanity.
“Christmas also affords us the time to take a moment to reflect on our lives and show gratitude to God for His manifold blessings,” the statement said.
He noted that the birth of Christ was unique in many respects, including His divine conception through the Holy Spirit, His universal mission as Saviour of all people regardless of race, colour or status, and the heavenly host that announced His birth.
The statement urged Christians to emulate the values of humility, love and service exemplified by Christ, and to take advantage of the free and universal offer of salvation through Him.
“During this Christmas, take a serious look at yourself and make a conscious effort, take a conscious decision to come to Him.
You will be better off when you align your thoughts and actions on Jesus Christ, the ultimate Saviour of the world,” the statement admonished.
According to the statement, The Rt Rev. Arhin-Yorke prayed for God’s blessings upon members of the Diocese in the ensuing years and called for renewed commitment to the Christian faith and a life that reflects the uniqueness of Christ.
