Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, representing President John Dramani Mahama, has met with members of Ghana’s diaspora community in Vic following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative in Defence of Democracy.
The engagement brought together Ghanaian nationals living in Spain, including traditional leaders, the Ghana Union, and various community associations across provinces. The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe.
Delivering greetings on behalf of President Mahama, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang commended Ghanaians in Spain for maintaining a positive image of the country abroad. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening ties with the diaspora and ensuring their active involvement in national development.

She also used the occasion to update the community on key developments in Ghana, highlighting ongoing efforts to stabilise the economy, curb inflation, and maintain fiscal discipline. According to her, these measures form part of a broader national strategy aimed at transforming Ghana into a value-added, production-driven economy under the government’s “Big Push” initiative.
Touching on sector-specific interventions, the Vice President pointed to increased investment in agriculture to boost local production and reduce reliance on imports. She also outlined major social policies currently being implemented, including the No-Fees Stress Policy for first-year tertiary students, the distribution of free sanitary pads to schoolgirls, and the expansion of access to primary healthcare.
Further initiatives such as the Goldbod programme, the phased rollout of a 24-hour economy, and plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank were also discussed as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth and national transformation.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the warm reception received in Spain and encouraged members of the Ghanaian diaspora to remain united and actively engaged in the country’s development. She reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting their welfare and strengthening connections with Ghanaians living abroad.
