The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for the illegal possession and discharge of firearms during a funeral celebration.
According to a statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the Regional Police Headquarters, the suspects, identified as Frank Afoko (41) and Kojo Agyapong (31), were apprehended on April 2, 2025, at about 2:00 PM by the Western North Police Intelligence Department. The arrest was carried out with the support of the Formed Police Unit.
The police began investigations after a viral video, recorded at a funeral in Attakrom near Bibiani on March 14, 2025, showed several individuals openly firing weapons without legal authorization. The suspects, along with others still at large, were captured in the footage engaging in the illegal activity.
During interrogation by the Regional Investigation Team, both suspects admitted to being the individuals seen in the video. They have since been detained as investigations continue, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.
The Western North Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region. Authorities are calling on the public to provide any information that could help in arresting the remaining suspects.
The statement was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Michael Nkekesi, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Western North Region.
