The Western Central Regional Police Command has arraigned seven individuals before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi on charges related to illegal mining activities.
The accused—identified as Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto alias Agorogo, Kwadwo George alias Sergio, and Emmanuel Van alias Atta—have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and engaging in mining operations without a valid license.
Following their appearance in court, the suspects were remanded into prison custody and are expected to reappear on 17th April 2025.
In a related incident, two Chinese nationals, 38-year-old Huan Ciongjian and 56-year-old Ling Yong, were arrested for engaging in illegal mining activities along the banks of the Bonsa River.
Authorities have since handed over the foreign nationals to the Ghana Immigration Service for further processing.
The arrests form part of intensified efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on illegal mining operations, commonly known as galamsey, which continue to pose serious threats to the country’s water bodies and environment.
