Kumasi High Court Jails Notorious Armed Robber for 120 Years, Adds Life Sentence for Murder

The Kumasi High Court has convicted and sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH,” to 120 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery, in addition to a life sentence for murder. Presided over by Justice Abdul Razak, the court found Afriyie guilty of attacking and killing pharmacist and building contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu, during a robbery at Atasemanso in Kumasi on November 20, 2021. The convict forcibly entered the residence of Mr. Klu and his family, stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500, before fatally shooting the 43-year-old homeowner. Two Arrested for Possession of Suspected Indian Hemp in Eastern Region

The Eastern North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals, Hawa Ibrahim and Latifa Adams, for possessing a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp. The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation in Antokrom, Eastern Region. A search of Hawa Ibrahim’s residence uncovered 24 maxi bags containing 1,650 slabs of compressed and ball-shaped substances believed to be Indian hemp. Both suspects are currently in custody and assisting police with investigations. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will be processed through the legal system.

Police arrest five in connection with armed robberies in Ashanti Region

The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in the Ashanti Region has arrested five suspects linked to a string of armed robbery cases in the Denchemuoso District and surrounding areas. The key suspect, Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last (32), was apprehended on April 22, 2025, following credible intelligence. He had been on the police wanted list since 2016 for his alleged involvement in the robbery and murder of G/Cpl Frank Essel of SWAT/Ashanti at the Open Space Hotel, Denchemuoso. The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey) operations. From March 2025 to date, the Service has conducted a series of targeted operations in communities affected by illegal mining activities. So far, 208 suspects have been arrested, including eight (8) Chinese nationals. In the course of these operations, police have retrieved eighty-five (85) excavators and three (3) bulldozers believed to have been used in the illegal mining operations. Father jailed 10 years for impregnating 15-year-old daughter

The Circuit Court at Tokor in the Ketu South Municipality, presided over by Mr Joseph Ofosu Behome, has sentenced a 36-year-old father to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for impregnating his daughter. The convict, Kofitse Zigah, an electrician residing at Adoteykope, a suburb of Aflao defiled his 15-year-old daughter on two occasions, resulting in the pregnancy. He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and jailed accordingly. NACOC intercepts 73 slabs of suspected cocaine at Swiss Port, KIA 

Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, intercepted a cargo being packaged for shipping at the Swiss Port at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra, containing concealed substances suspected to be cocaine and destined for The Netherlands.   The NACOC in a statement said a total of 73 slabs with a weight of 89.74 kg were uncovered.   "Four suspects have been picked up and are currently in custody at NACOC whilst investigations are underway way," the statement said.  Source: GNA

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The vehicle, with registration number GS 1845-23, was reported stolen in the early hours of April 15, 2025, from the residence of an EPA employee at Budo City, a suburb of Tarkwa in the Western Region.
