Ghana Armed Forces Conduct Cordon and Search Operation in Bawku

In a continued effort to restore peace and ensure public safety, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have intensified their operations in Bawku and surrounding areas. This comes in response to ongoing clashes and sporadic gunfire that have disturbed the peace in the region.

According to a press release from the Department of Public Relations at the GAF Headquarters, troops conducted a cordon and search operation in the early hours of Monday, April 21, 2025. The operation was initiated after personnel deployed at Binduri heard sporadic gunshots coming from the Binduri Central Market area.

Troops swiftly cordoned off the area and, in collaboration with the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force, carried out thorough search operations. During the search, one suspected gunman was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Security forces also retrieved a cache of weapons and items, including an empty M16 rifle magazine, an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, four fragmentation jackets, a pair of boots, and a helmet.

Later the same day, an attempted infiltration of Binduri by unknown gunmen was foiled by military patrol teams. This led to a brief exchange of fire, but the attackers fled the scene. The area is now reported to be under control, though troops remain on high alert to respond to any further threats.

Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to working with other security agencies to protect the peace and security of Bawku. He urged residents and the general public to support ongoing efforts to restore calm in the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces continue to stand firm in their resolve to maintain law and order and to support civil authorities in the region.
