Ghana’s Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, and his Deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, have publicly filed their annual tax returns, setting what they describe as a standard of leadership through action.
According to the Minister, the decision to file publicly underscores the principle that leadership must be demonstrated rather than merely proclaimed. The move forms part of efforts to promote transparency and encourage voluntary tax compliance across the country.
Dr. Forson commended Ghanaian taxpayers for their consistent contribution to national development, noting that tax compliance remains essential for sustaining government operations and driving progress.

He emphasized that paying taxes is not only a legal obligation but also a shared civic and moral responsibility.
“Public officials, professionals, businesses, and citizens are all equal before the law,” he stated, stressing that equitable compliance ensures a fair distribution of the national tax burden and accelerates development.
The Finance Minister highlighted that tax revenues continue to fund critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and national security.
He further praised the Ghana Revenue Authority for its ongoing efforts, particularly during the April observance of Tax and Good Governance Month.
He noted that the initiative provides a platform to educate the public, enhance engagement, and promote voluntary compliance. He also urged the Authority to intensify public education campaigns while advancing reforms aimed at simplifying tax processes, reducing compliance costs, and improving transparency.
Dr. Forson assured that the Ministry of Finance (Ghana) remains committed to supporting the GRA in fulfilling its mandate effectively.
He called on individuals and businesses that are yet to file their tax returns to do so promptly, encouraging them to seek guidance where necessary and utilize available digital platforms.
The Minister concluded by stressing that a strong tax culture is vital for economic stability, accountability, and national development.
“Through compliance and integrity, we can build a more transparent, resilient, and prosperous Ghana,” he said.
