POLICE FOIL ROBBERY PLOT IN OBUASI, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS

The Ghana Police Service has disrupted a planned robbery operation in Obuasi, leading to the arrest of two suspects linked to both a recent high-value robbery and a separate planned attack.

According to the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, the operation followed credible intelligence received on April 16, 2026, indicating that a group of armed men were preparing to carry out a robbery in the mining town. Acting swiftly, a police team tracked down and arrested Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso, a suburb of Obuasi.

During interrogation, Fuseini reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang responsible for a robbery attack on an Indian national at his residence in New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026. The gang allegedly made away with GH₵150,000. Investigators say the attack was orchestrated with inside information from a suspect identified as Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who tipped off the gang about the presence of large sums of cash.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” on April 20, 2026, at his hideout in Gausu, Obuasi. Police say Mohammed admitted to his involvement in planning the earlier robbery and revealed that the group had been preparing to launch another attack targeting a distribution company located near Mawuli Hotel.

Authorities have also disclosed that both suspects are currently standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.

Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for other members of the syndicate identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Police believe the group may still be in possession of a pump-action shotgun and a locally manufactured pistol.

The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of Obuasi and surrounding communities of their commitment to maintaining security and urged the public to provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.
