Pregnant Woman Dies at Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital Over Alleged Lack of Bed

A pregnant woman, identified as Opoku Abigail, has tragically died at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital after reportedly being denied a life-saving caesarean section due to the unavailability of a recovery ward bed.

According to family members, the deceased was referred to the facility from a private hospital after complications arose during her pregnancy. However, upon arrival, she was allegedly unable to undergo surgery because there was no available bed in the recovery ward to support post-operative care.

The family claims that Abigail remained in the delivery ward for approximately 36 hours without receiving the needed surgical intervention. Her condition reportedly deteriorated during that period, leading to her death.

Relatives insist that the situation could have been avoided if timely medical attention had been provided. They are now calling for a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, as well as a comprehensive review of operations at the hospital.

“This should not happen in this day and age. If the system was working properly, she would still be alive,” a family member said.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about pressure on healthcare infrastructure in fast-growing communities such as Kasoa, where population growth continues to outpace the expansion of medical facilities.

Health experts have often warned that shortages in critical care resources—including beds, equipment, and personnel can lead to preventable deaths, particularly in emergency obstetric cases where time is a crucial factor.

Authorities are yet to officially comment on the matter.
