In a significant development in the fight against transnational crime, the Volta Regional Police have intercepted a large cache of ammunition during a routine search at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier.

According to a press release issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the operation took place on April 18, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Police officers on duty stopped a Hyundai bus traveling from Accra to Benin, bearing registration number GR 8246-Q, with several passengers on board.
A thorough inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of 60 cartons of AAA cartridges containing 15,000 rounds and 72 cartons of BB cartridges with 18,000 rounds. The ammunition was concealed in sacks and hidden beneath luggage.

Two individuals, the driver Abasou Foussseni (45) and co-driver Salisu Jalilu (38), were arrested and interrogated. Both denied knowledge of the concealed ammunition. However, preliminary investigations suggested that the co-driver may have been responsible for loading the illicit items into the vehicle.
Following this, the driver was granted police enquiry bail to allow him to transport the passengers to their destination, while the co-driver remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities confirmed that he will be arraigned before court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to combating transnational crimes and maintaining peace and security within the sub-region.
The statement was signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit, Volta Region.
