Police Intercept bus with over 1,000 rounds of ammunition

Police have arrested a commercial bus driver and his mate after intercepting a Savelugu-bound bus carrying a large cache of ammunition. The suspects, Mohammed Gzali (42) and Mohammed Jabir, were arrested on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier during a routine inspection of a Kia Grand Bird bus (AK 1309–21) travelling from Accra to Tamale and Savelugu. A search of the vehicle uncovered a fertiliser sack hidden among passengers’ luggage, containing 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridges. Volta Regional Police Intercept Ammunition in Early Morning Operation

In a significant development in the fight against transnational crime, the Volta Regional Police have intercepted a large cache of ammunition during a routine search at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier. According to a press release issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the operation took place on April 18, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Police officers on duty stopped a Hyundai bus traveling from Accra to Benin, bearing registration number GR 8246-Q, with several passengers on board.
