Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Life of 14-Year-Old Boy in Sunyani Fiapre

A 14-year-old boy, identified as Matthew Mahama, lost his life in a tragic drowning incident at Fiapre Catholic Junction along the Sunyani Ring Road.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on Thursday morning at approximately 8:51 AM. Matthew had been swimming with friends in a local river when the unfortunate event took place.

A rescue team from the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station, led by Station Officer Two (STNO II) Clement Takyi, was promptly dispatched to the scene. The team conducted a search operation and successfully retrieved the boy’s body, which was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.

The GNFS extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and issued a cautionary statement urging the public to exercise extreme care around water bodies. The Service also reiterated its commitment to public education on drowning prevention and emphasized its readiness to respond swiftly and professionally to emergencies.

Residents are reminded to adhere to safety guidelines when near rivers, lakes, and other water bodies to prevent similar tragedies.
