President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal, following allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Mr Baba Jamal, who participated in the primaries as a candidate, is alleged to have been involved in vote-buying activities during the internal party election. Although similar allegations were reportedly made against several candidates, the Presidency noted that he was the only serving public officer among those implicated.
In a directive issued to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, President Mahama stressed the need to uphold the highest standards of conduct expected of public officials. The decision, according to the Presidency, is intended to protect the integrity of public office and prevent any perception of impropriety or conflict with the government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.

The President also acknowledged a public statement by the NDC General Secretary confirming that the party has initiated its own internal investigations into the allegations arising from the primaries.
While those investigations continue, the government maintains that the recall is a precautionary administrative measure and does not prejudice any ongoing party processes.
The recall takes immediate effect, with the Minister for Foreign Affairs instructed to undertake the necessary diplomatic and administrative steps to implement the directive.
