Tema Police Foil Armed Robbery at Afienya-Mataheko

The Tema Regional Police Command has successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt at Afienya-Mataheko in the early hours of Monday, 29 December 2025.

According to the Police, intelligence received on Friday, 27 December 2025 by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) indicated that a group of suspected armed robbers was planning attacks within the Tema Metropolis and surrounding areas. Acting swiftly, police officers were deployed and placed under surveillance to intercept the suspects.

At around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, officers observed four suspected robbers attempting to break into a residential property. When approached, the suspects opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire with the police.

During the encounter, all four suspects sustained gunshot wounds. Three of them—Kwabena Azuwebi (alias “Lastman”), Yaro Bawku, and Faisal—were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. The fourth suspect, Kassim Hussein, was captured and taken to the hospital for treatment but died while receiving medical care.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a Taurus pistol loaded with six rounds, two cutlasses, and two motorbikes—one unregistered and the other bearing registration M-25-GT-4243. All items have been retained for further investigations. The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.

The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to provide timely and credible information to aid in law enforcement efforts. The police also warned criminal elements that crime does not pay and that offenders will be dealt with firmly.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the robbery attempt.
