Yaw Asare Jailed Two Years for Damaging Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange
The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced Yaw Asare, a 48-year-old head porter, to two years’ imprisonment at Nsawam Prison for unlawfully damaging public road infrastructure.
Asare was convicted of causing unlawful damage, contrary to Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), after he was found guilty of vandalising parapet beams and accessories on the newly constructed Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange on June 9, 2025.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways, in a statement, expressed concern over the growing trend of vandalism and unlawful destruction of road infrastructure across the country. It noted that such acts, often including vehicular crashes involving traffic lights and the deliberate damaging of road fixtures, place heavy financial and safety burdens on the nation.
