Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Begins Official Visit to Ghana

The Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, The Honourable Terrance Michael Drew, will undertake an official visit to Ghana from Tuesday, March 3 to Saturday, March 7, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.

During his stay, Prime Minister Drew will participate in Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration on Friday, March 6, at the historic Independence Square in Accra. His presence underscores the growing partnership between the West African nation and the Caribbean state.

Official Engagements

Prime Minister Drew and his delegation will begin their official schedule on Wednesday with a meeting at the University of Ghana, where he will hold discussions with the Vice Chancellor. The meeting is expected to explore academic collaboration, research exchange programmes, and educational partnerships.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will be hosted at the Presidency for bilateral talks and an official luncheon aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Cultural and Historical Visits

As part of his itinerary, Dr Drew will tour significant historical and cultural landmarks, including the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The visits highlight the shared Pan-African heritage and enduring historical links between Ghana and the Caribbean.

The Prime Minister will also visit the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as a solemn reminder of the transatlantic slave trade.

In addition, Dr Drew will pay a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, in Cape Coast.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have been actively strengthening bilateral relations through South-South cooperation, with a focus on trade, education, tourism, and cultural exchange. The visit is expected to further consolidate ties and open new avenues for collaboration between the two countries.

The official visit marks another milestone in Ghana’s diplomatic outreach to Caribbean nations, reinforcing shared historical bonds and a collective commitment to development and unity among nations of African descent.
