Qatar Condemns Missile Attack on Its Territory, Affirms Right to Respond

The Government of Qatar has strongly condemned what it describes as a direct targeting of its territory with Iranian ballistic missiles, calling the act a “flagrant violation” of its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement issued on Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack represents an unacceptable escalation that threatens both Qatar’s security and the broader stability of the region.

According to the statement, the missile strike constitutes a direct infringement on Qatar’s security and an act that cannot be justified under any circumstances. The Ministry emphasized that Doha reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law.

“The State of Qatar reserves its full right to respond to this attack in line with the provisions of international law and in a manner proportionate to the nature of the aggression,” the statement said, adding that any response would be aimed at defending the country’s sovereignty and protecting its national interests.

Despite the incident, the Ministry reiterated that Qatar has consistently been among the leading advocates of dialogue with the Iran. It noted that Doha has long promoted diplomatic engagement as the most effective means of resolving disputes and preventing escalation in the region.

Qatar stressed that it has continually called for peaceful dialogue as the foundation for addressing differences and safeguarding regional security. However, the statement described the recent targeting of Qatari territory as inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness.

“The renewed targeting of our territory does not reflect good faith and threatens the foundations of understandings upon which bilateral relations between the two countries were based,” the Ministry stated.

Regional observers warn that the incident could heighten tensions in an already fragile Middle East security landscape. Qatar has not yet disclosed details regarding damage or casualties, but authorities maintain that the country’s sovereignty and safety remain paramount.

Further developments are expected as diplomatic channels and international stakeholders respond to the situation.
