Obuasi Robbery Case: Two Suspects Sentenced to Up to 30 Years as Police Secure Conviction

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two robbery suspects following a violent robbery incident at Asonkore in Obuasi.

The suspects, Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu, pleaded guilty before the Bekwai Circuit Court on April 10, 2026, to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

The court subsequently sentenced Rashid Adams to 30 years imprisonment and Godfred Ampadu to 25 years imprisonment. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is alleged to have aided the crime, pleaded not guilty. He has been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.

Details of the Robbery Incident

According to police reports, the robbery occurred on April 3, 2026, at Asonkore, a community within Obuasi. During the incident, a gold dealer was violently attacked and knocked down with a tricycle before being robbed of gold and cash.

Swift investigations by the Ashanti South Regional Police led to the arrest of the suspects. Authorities also recovered the stolen gold and retrieved a vehicle believed to have been purchased using proceeds from the robbery.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime across the region. Officials emphasized that ongoing intelligence-led operations will continue to target criminal activities and ensure offenders are brought to justice.

Residents in Obuasi and surrounding communities have been encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information to aid crime prevention efforts.
