POLICE FOIL ROBBERY ATTEMPT ALONG EJURA–NKORANZA HIGHWAY; ONE SUSPECT DEAD

The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway following an intelligence-led operation near Mimenaso No. 2 in the Ashanti Region.

According to a police report, the operation took place on 9th April 2026 when a special team moved to a bushy area after receiving intelligence that a six-member armed robbery gang was preparing to ambush and rob unsuspecting commuters along the stretch.

The gang was reportedly led by a suspect identified as Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as “Shaini.”

Exchange of Fire

Upon arrival at the location, the suspects allegedly mistook the officers for potential victims and opened fire. The police team returned fire, resulting in an exchange during which one suspect was fatally injured while the remaining members, including the gang leader, fled the scene.

Items Retrieved

A search of the area led to the recovery of one pump-action shotgun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones.

Additionally, two live cartridges were found in the pocket of the deceased suspect, along with a talisman tied around his waist.

Ongoing Investigations

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that intensive efforts are underway to track and arrest the remaining suspects linked to the attempted robbery.
