Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Launches 150th Anniversary of Mfantsipim School, Highlights Legacy of Excellence

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially launched the 150th anniversary celebrations of Mfantsipim School, describing the institution as a cornerstone in shaping Ghana’s intellectual and leadership heritage.

Speaking at the launch event, the Vice President praised the school’s long-standing contribution to national development, noting that generations of students have gone on to make significant impacts across various sectors. She emphasized that the institution’s legacy is defined by excellence, discipline, and strong character formation.

She further highlighted the school’s intergenerational influence, explaining that its impact extends beyond individual students to families and communities across Ghana.

Referencing the historic rivalry between Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College, the Vice President described it as a healthy tradition that reflects intellectual engagement and mutual respect. According to her, such values are essential for fostering constructive national dialogue.

The Vice President also underscored the role of the Methodist Church Ghana in establishing and sustaining the institution, noting that its vision continues to demonstrate the transformative power of education in nation-building.

She called for expanded access to quality education across the country, stressing that growth in enrollment must be matched with innovation, critical thinking, and alignment with Ghana’s development priorities.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced new government initiatives aimed at supporting the education of persons with disabilities. He also reaffirmed government commitment to completing ongoing infrastructure projects at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

In her closing remarks, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang urged current students of Mfantsipim School to uphold the institution’s values of integrity, discipline, and service. She also commended alumni and stakeholders for their continued dedication to the school’s growth and success.

The launch marks the beginning of a series of activities to commemorate 150 years of Mfantsipim School’s contribution to education in Ghana, with expectations of continued impact in the years ahead.
