The Ghana Police Service has announced that it will enforce a High Court order prohibiting the planned “Stop Galamsey” demonstration scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, the Command disclosed that a High Court in Accra on February 24, 2026, granted an Order for Prohibition restraining the conveners from holding the protest on the stated date.
According to the Police, the court order was duly served on the organisers in accordance with due process. The Command noted that the prohibition was issued in the interest of public order and safety, particularly because the planned protest coincides with the delivery of the State of the Nation Address.

The Police also addressed claims circulating on the organisers’ social media platforms suggesting that no court process had been served on them. The Command clarified that the High Court Order had been properly served and that all legal procedures were followed.
“The Accra Regional Police Command will enforce the High Court Order in accordance with the law,” the statement emphasised.
However, the Police indicated their willingness to engage the conveners to agree on a new date for the demonstration, in line with the provisions of the Public Order Act.
The Command urged the general public to comply with the court directive and avoid any actions that could result in a breach of the peace.
The statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights while ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.
