Police Investigate Shooting Incident Involving Police Officer at Tetegu

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving a policewoman that occurred on Sunday, January 19, 2026, around the Tetegu area near Weija in the Greater Accra Region.

According to preliminary police findings, the incident followed a confrontation between the policewoman and a taxi driver. During the encounter, the officer allegedly shot the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab. The victim was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Further investigations indicate that after the shooting, the policewoman was hit by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently on admission at a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment.

Police investigators who visited the scene recovered several exhibits, including one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one spent 9mm cartridge. These items have been secured to aid ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have indicated that further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.

The Police Service has also reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in handling the matter.
