Kumasi Prepares for Historic Visit of King Mswati III of Eswatini

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a series of temporary traffic arrangements ahead of the royal visit of His Majesty King Mswati III, the monarch of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), to the Ashanti regional capital.

In a public notice issued by the KMA, the assembly expressed its pride in welcoming the King of Eswatini on what it described as a “historic visit,” and assured residents of coordinated efforts to ensure a smooth and dignified experience for both the royal guest and the city’s residents.

Traffic Advisories Issued

As part of security and ceremonial protocols, the KMA outlined key traffic regulations for two days:

  • Tuesday, June 24, 2025:
From 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, there will be heavy police presence and traffic regulation on roads stretching from Kumasi Airport to Manhyia, Amakom, Asafo, Adum, and Nhyiaeso. Motorists using these routes are urged to comply with traffic officers and, where possible, use alternative roads.
  • Wednesday, June 25, 2025:
On the second day of the visit, the same timeframe (2:00 PM to 6:00 PM) will see strict traffic control from Nhyiaeso Ridge Police area to the Bekwai Roundabout, as part of movement protocols for the King and his entourage.

Public Cooperation Encouraged

The KMA has appealed to residents, drivers, and traders to cooperate fully with the temporary measures, emphasizing that such collaboration is key to demonstrating Kumasi’s legendary hospitality and cultural pride.

“This royal visit is a unique opportunity to showcase the beauty, heritage, and unity of our city,” the notice stated. “We encourage the public to support this momentous occasion by respecting the traffic regulations and helping maintain order.”

The visit by King Mswati III is expected to deepen diplomatic and cultural relations between Ghana and Eswatini, while also celebrating the strong traditional ties between African monarchies.
