University of Ghana Issues Alert on COVID-19 Resurgence, Urges Strict Adherence to Safety Protocols

The Health Services Directorate of the University of Ghana has issued a public notice warning of a resurgence in COVID-19 cases within the university community and surrounding areas.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Directorate confirmed that a number of suspected and confirmed cases have recently been reported. As a result, the University is calling on all staff, students, and visitors to take immediate precautions to prevent further spread of the virus.

Heightened Preventive Measures

The Directorate emphasized a return to strict observance of the following COVID-19 preventive measures:

  • Proper wearing of face masks, especially in crowded or enclosed spaces
  • Frequent handwashing with soap under running water or the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers
  • Observance of at least one metre of physical distancing where possible
  • Avoidance of large gatherings unless absolutely necessary
  • Ensuring good ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting spaces
  • Staying home and seeking prompt medical attention if experiencing flu-like symptoms

Response Protocols Reactivated

In response to the resurgence, the University of Ghana has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, which include screening and triage processes at all health facilities on campus. The Health Services Directorate noted that it is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to issue updates as needed.

Call for Community Cooperation

The statement urged all members of the University community to work together to safeguard their health and that of others. “Let us work together to protect ourselves and our community,” the Directorate stated.
