Kennedy Agyapong Condemns Intimidation Against Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Calls for Democratic Unity

In a strong statement following yesterday’s disturbing events at the residence of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has condemned what he describes as an attempt to silence voices of conscience in the country.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who represents the neighboring constituency to Agyapong’s former seat, reportedly faced intimidation at his home—a development that has sparked public outcry and drawn widespread condemnation from civil society groups and lawmakers, particularly from the Minority in Parliament.

Kennedy Agyapong, known for his outspoken nature and former role as Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, did not mince words in his public response. “Yesterday’s events at the residence of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, are a sad reminder of the troubling times we are living in,” he said.

While political differences are expected in a vibrant democracy, Agyapong stressed that state institutions must never be used to suppress dissent or legitimate criticism. “We may disagree on politics, but we must never use State institutions to silence voices of conscience,” he stated.

The former MP praised the Minority Members of Parliament and patriotic citizens who showed up in solidarity with Rev. Ntim Fordjour. “That spirit of solidarity is what gives our democracy its strength,” he remarked, calling on all Ghanaians to rally around democratic principles in times of crisis.

Describing Rev. Ntim Fordjour as “a man of conviction,” Agyapong encouraged him to remain firm in the face of pressure. “He has every right to raise concerns that affect our national security and the future of this country. I encourage him to remain bold, firm, and resolute in defending what he believes is right for Ghana.”

The incident has reignited concerns over political intolerance and the shrinking space for critical voices in Ghana’s democracy. Agyapong’s comments are seen as a rare moment of cross-party support, urging leaders to rise above partisan divisions and uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.

“As a nation, we must rise above fear and restore faith in our democracy,” Agyapong concluded.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Meanwhile, political observers are calling for greater accountability and transparency in the actions of security agencies.
