Dr. Bawumia Condemns Alleged NIB Raid on Rev. John Ntim Fordjour’s Residence

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a solidarity visit to Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, following a reported raid attempt by alleged officials of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

The incident, which occurred on the night of April 9, 2025, has sparked significant concern across political circles, with Dr. Bawumia strongly condemning what he described as an act of “unfortunate political persecution.”

In a statement issued after the visit, Dr. Bawumia noted that Rev. Fordjour was in high spirits despite the incident and remained undaunted. He called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the general public to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding during this period.

“I urge all Party faithful to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding in this period of unfortunate political persecution,” the Vice President said.

Dr. Bawumia also took the opportunity to reiterate his earlier call on President John Dramani Mahama to act swiftly to curb the actions of rogue security operatives.

“I wish to reiterate my earlier submission to the President, H.E John Dramani Mahama, to immediately rein in his security operatives. State institutions must not be reduced to political tools used to harass and intimidate opponents,” he stressed.

He further warned against the misuse of state agencies for political ends, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law and democratic principles.

“Ghanaians will not accept this descent into lawlessness and fear. Our democracy is hinged on due process and the rule of law,” Dr. Bawumia asserted.

The National Investigations Bureau has yet to release an official statement regarding the alleged raid.

This development comes at a time of heightened political tension, with opposition parties and civil society groups raising concerns over the growing use of state power to intimidate dissenting voices.
