The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has officially approved the fees and charges to be levied by the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, bringing clarity to students, parents, and university management.
In a formal communication issued on behalf of the Minister of Education, the Director-General of GTEC outlined the approved fee components and emphasized compliance with the directive.
According to the letter, the Academic Facility User Fee is to remain unchanged and pegged at the 2024/2025 academic year rate. Additionally, students will pay GHS 50 as Student Representative Council (SRC) dues and GHS 150 as SRC Development Levy.

Graduate students are also required to pay a GHS 250 Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Development Levy.
The statement further approved a Telecel Broadband Levy of GHS 122 across all undergraduate levels, including freshmen. However, GTEC stressed that this levy is optional, and the University of Ghana must adequately educate students on their right to opt out should they choose not to subscribe.
In addition, a GHS 100 75th Anniversary Levy has been approved. GTEC clarified that this particular fee must not be charged beyond the 2025/2026 academic year, as it is strictly tied to the university’s anniversary celebration.
The Director-General expressed confidence that the approval resolves concerns surrounding the University of Ghana’s fee schedule for the upcoming academic year and called for the institution’s continued cooperation in implementing the directive.
The announcement is expected to guide financial planning for students and guardians ahead of the new academic year while ensuring transparency and regulatory compliance within Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
