Wendy Shay Wins Best Female Artiste (Western Africa) at AFRIMA 2025

Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has been crowned Best Female Artiste, Western Africa at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 11, 2026.

The prestigious five-day event featured business summits and cultural engagements, culminating in a grand awards night. Wendy Shay emerged victorious in a highly competitive category, beating top acts including Tiwa Savage, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Amaarae, and Josey.

In her acceptance speech, the singer expressed gratitude to God, her fans—known as the Shay Gang—her partners, and a special mention to Tracy Gyasi, popularly called Tracy Shay. She credited the young dancer’s viral performance to her hit song Too Late as a major boost to the track’s success.

Released in 2025, Too Late gained widespread attention after Tracy Shay danced to it at a school event, sparking a viral moment across social media platforms. The song’s popularity further cemented Wendy Shay’s position as one of Ghana’s standout performers during the year under review.

AFRIMA is an annual continental awards scheme that celebrates African music, talent, and creativity while promoting the continent’s cultural heritage. Established by the International Committee of AFRIMA in collaboration with the African Union (AU), the awards held their pioneer edition in 2014.
