Ghanaian Referee Daniel Laryea to Officiate AFCON 2025 Semi-Final Between Nigeria and Morocco

Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has been appointed to officiate the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final clash between Nigeria and hosts Morocco. The decisive match is set for Wednesday night at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat, with both sides vying for a place in the final.

Laryea recently served as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during Morocco’s tense quarter-final win over Cameroon, demonstrating sharp judgment and composure under pressure. Earlier in the tournament, he also officiated the group-stage match between Algeria and Burkina Faso as centre referee, effectively controlling the pace and discipline of the game.

Regarded as one of Africa’s top referees, Laryea has an impressive track record, including multiple AFCON appearances and regular assignments in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. His ability to manage high-pressure and emotionally charged games has earned him respect across the continent.

Wednesday’s semi-final promises to be fiercely contested. Morocco will aim to leverage home advantage and fan support in pursuit of a historic AFCON title, while three-time champions Nigeria will look to assert their pedigree and secure a place in another final.

With so much at stake, officiating decisions could play a pivotal role, and Laryea’s experience and calm authority are expected to ensure fair play as Africa’s footballing eyes turn to Rabat for one of the tournament’s most crucial matches.
