The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale manhunt to apprehend suspects involved in the fatal shooting of two police officers in the Upper East Region. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of April 13, 2025, at Poyamirea, on the outskirts of Binduri.
According to an official press release from the Police Headquarters, the officers—whose names are currently being withheld—were in plain clothes and riding a private motorbike when they were ambushed. They were reportedly travelling from Bongo to Binduri when the assailants attacked, fatally shooting the officers and seizing their motorbike.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the officers were not on official duty at the time, but the motive behind the targeted attack remains under investigation.
The police have assured the public that every effort is being made to identify and arrest the perpetrators. “We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice; and we will surely get them,” said Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs.
The Police Administration also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, pledging full support during this difficult time. The officers’ identities will be released after their families have been formally notified, in accordance with custom and tradition.
This incident marks a deeply somber moment for the Ghana Police Service and highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty, even when off-duty.
The public is encouraged to provide any information that may assist the police in their ongoing investigation.
