Kennedy Agyapong Calls for Peace Amid Rising Tensions in Bawku

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of violence in Bawku and surrounding areas. In a strongly worded statement, he urged all parties involved—particularly the youth—to refrain from violence and embrace peaceful dialogue as the only sustainable path forward.

“I am following with deep concern the recent escalation of tensions in Bawku and its surrounding areas,” Agyapong said. “The cycle of violence and reprisals continues to harm innocent lives and disrupt our path to national unity.”

The Bawku conflict, which has persisted for years, has seen a worrying resurgence in recent weeks, leading to casualties and widespread insecurity. Agyapong emphasized that while grievances may be deep-rooted, violence cannot be the solution.

“At this crucial moment, I urge all parties, especially the youth, to choose peace. No matter how deep the grievance, violence is never the answer. Our future depends on peaceful coexistence,” he stressed.

The former MP also praised former President John Dramani Mahama for endorsing the mediation process led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The initiative was originally launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an effort to broker long-term peace in the region.

“I commend President Mahama for committing to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II-led mediation process, originally set up by President Akufo-Addo. This is true statesmanship; putting Ghana above partisanship,” Agyapong stated.

He concluded with a call for nationwide support for the mediation process, noting that peace in Bawku strengthens the entire nation. “Let us support this effort wholeheartedly. When Bawku is at peace, Ghana is stronger. We must move forward together.”

As tensions persist, leaders across the political spectrum are being called upon to rise above party lines and contribute meaningfully to restoring calm and unity in the region.
