Volta Police Intercept 26 Sacks of Suspected Narcotic Drugs in Ho

The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted twenty-six (26) sacks of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation in Ho.

According to the Police, the operation was initiated after intelligence was received on January 23, 2026, indicating that a white American Ford wagon bearing Ghana Health Service inscriptions had been loaded with suspected narcotics at Dzolokpuita and was heading towards Ho.

A combined team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), and the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was immediately deployed for surveillance. The vehicle was intercepted near Tarso Hotel in Ho after a brief chase, when the driver ignored signals to stop at the Ziave Police Check Point.

A search conducted on the vehicle in the presence of the suspect revealed twenty-six maxi sacks containing a total of 2,045 yellow, oval-shaped wrapped compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspected narcotics are estimated to have a street value of GH¢1,022,500.00.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, aged 38, who reportedly works with the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, was arrested at the scene. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police say arrangements are underway for the seized exhibits to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for scientific examination and analysis.

The Volta Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and intelligence operations to disrupt drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region, while urging the public to continue supporting the Police with timely information.
