The Volta Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking following the interception of a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances along the Accra–Aflao road.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, when police personnel stopped a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FK 692 KF near Kpotame, close to Sogakorpe. The driver, Charles Adenkule, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with investigations.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of ten (10) parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram. The substances are estimated to have a street value of about GH¢1,032,650.00. Police also retrieved approximately half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

According to the Volta Regional Police Command, the operation was initiated after the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Wisdom Akorli, received credible intelligence through the Police Intelligence Unit (PID). Acting swiftly, he deployed a combined team of officers from the PID, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) to intercept the vehicle.

DCOP Akorli commended the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence, and integrity, particularly praising them for resisting any attempt at compromise and refusing to bargain for an amicable settlement.
The police say all seized exhibits will be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and analysis as investigations continue.
The Volta Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other forms of crime and has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts across the region.
