The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has commissioned three landmark projects at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reinforcing government’s commitment to innovation and higher education development.

During her visit to Kumasi on Sunday, the Vice President joined Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, to officially unveil the newly completed KNUST Souvenir Shop, the Multipurpose Laboratory, and the KNUST Bottling Company.

Addressing the university community, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described the projects as a major milestone, emphasizing that they highlight the potential of educational institutions when given the needed support to grow.

“These projects are a testament to what becomes possible when our educational institutions are given the support, space, and encouragement to innovate and thrive,” she stated.

She further reaffirmed government’s dedication to empowering tertiary institutions to lead national transformation through research and industrial advancement.

“Ghana remains committed to strengthening higher education, promoting innovation, and ensuring that institutions like KNUST have the tools to drive the country’s development agenda forward,” the Vice President added.

Prof. Rita Dickson expressed gratitude for the continuous partnership between government, traditional leadership, and the academic sector, noting that the commissioned facilities will expand local research capacity, boost commercial productivity, and create new economic opportunities for students and staff.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, also commended KNUST for consistently championing science-led development and urged sustained national investment in education, research, and industry.

The ceremony drew senior government officials, industry partners, faculty members, and students, all celebrating the university’s expanding footprint in both academia and industrial enterprise.

The commissioned projects are expected to enhance KNUST’s internally generated revenue, support scientific research, and position the university as a stronger driver of Ghana’s industrialization and development strategy.
