Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has hailed the Adwumawura Programme as a groundbreaking initiative that is redefining entrepreneurship and innovation in Ghana.
Speaking at the onboarding and orientation event held at the University of Ghana, the Vice President underscored the programme’s ambition to transform the entrepreneurial landscape by equipping young Ghanaians with the resources, training, and environment needed to thrive.
Launched in April 2025 as a flagship initiative of President John Dramani Mahama, the Adwumawura Programme is spearheaded by the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), under the leadership of Mr. Eric Adjei, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment led by Hon. George Opare Addo.

The programme attracted an overwhelming 100,000 applications for its maiden cohort, from which 10,000 youth-owned businesses were carefully selected through a transparent process. The selection was overseen by representatives from government, academia, the private sector, and development partners to ensure fairness and credibility.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang applauded the hub trainers, development partners, and the selection committee for their vital role in shaping the programme, describing their contribution as “pivotal to the success of this bold national vision.”
She emphasized that the initiative goes beyond providing funding and training, aiming instead to instill discipline, focus, honesty, and resilience in Ghanaian entrepreneurs. “This opportunity offers support, but the responsibility to succeed lies in your commitment and ethics,” she told the beneficiaries.

Highlighting the drive and creativity of Ghana’s youth, she noted that young people are not waiting for the future but are already leading change today. “As pioneers of this programme, the first cohort carries the responsibility of setting high standards and proving that with the right support, Ghanaian youth can build a vibrant, innovative, and sustainable economy,” the Vice President stated.
The Adwumawura Programme is expected to provide a major boost to youth-led businesses and contribute significantly to national development by nurturing a generation of ethical, innovative, and resilient entrepreneurs.
