Court denies two bails over alleged robbery at Abura  

The Cape Coast Circuit Court II has remanded two unemployed men Adjei Mensah, 20 and Philip Ackon, 25 into police custody for allegedly robbing two sisters at knife point at Abura, a suburban Cape Coast.   The accused persons reside at Abura Baaware, a suburb of Cape Coast.  The Court presided over by Ms Nana Aba Kwaiba Nunoo, had earlier granted the two bails in the sum of 10,000 Cedis with three sureties each, but they could not fulfil the bail terms.   They will make their next appearance on Friday, February 28.   Narrating the case to the court, the Prosecutor, Inspector Joseph Laare, said the complainant, Ms Rosemary Bortier, 19 years old is a shop attendant and a resident of Abura Academy.   He said on Tuesday October 24, last year at...

Berekum Police investigate ‘Thursday Market’ robbery

Police in Berekum are investigating a robbery that took place at a shop at the Berekum 'Thursday Market' in the Bono Region. Thieves broke into the provision shop and made away with undisclosed sums of money and other valuables on Thursday night February 6, 2025. A police source who confirmed the incident told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that no arrest had since been made and police investigations were on-going. Madam Grace Ama, the shop owner, told the GNA that the thieves also damaged the shop’s ceiling, and appealed to the public to provide any information they received in connection with the theft to aid police investigations. Two soldiers jailed 10 years each for robbery and kidnapping  

The Asante Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced two soldiers to ten years imprisonment each in hard labour for kidnapping and robbing a small-scale miner of GHC96,500.00.  Air-force Lance Corporal (LAC) Alfred Mensah, 33 and LAC Matthew Amoako, 28, both denied conspiring to rob and kidnap Mr Andrews Asante.  They were then taken through a full trial and found culpable.  Meanwhile, three of their accomplices: only named as Frimpong and Francis, both soldiers as well as one Francis Acheampong, 41, driver, are at large.  Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, narrating told the Court presided over by Mr Isaac Appeatu that Mr Asante, the Complainant, was a small-scale miner resident at Ametubuom, a suburb of Asiwa, whilst Mensah and Amoako are Air Force officers based in...
