Police arrest suspect over Obuase robbery and murder

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery attack that led to the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, popularly known as Wale, was arrested on 18 January 2026 at Pomposo following an intelligence-led operation.

The arrest is linked to a residential robbery that occurred on 12 December 2025 at Asonkore. According to police, armed assailants attacked a house in the area, prompting a swift response from officers. Upon arrival, police found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the residence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects gained access to the house by cutting through a burglar-proof window. During the attack, they allegedly stole cash amounting to GH¢2,600, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key, and assaulted the deceased, leading to his death.

Police say two other suspects, identified only as A.T. and a Nigerian national, are believed to have played key roles in the robbery and murder and are currently on the run.

Items retrieved from the crime scene include hammers, machetes and cutters. The body of the deceased was deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Rahman Adams is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to track down and arrest the remaining suspects to face justice.
