Kennedy Agyapong Condemns Intimidation Against Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Calls for Democratic Unity

In a strong statement following yesterday’s disturbing events at the residence of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has condemned what he describes as an attempt to silence voices of conscience in the country. Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who represents the neighboring constituency to Agyapong’s former seat, reportedly faced intimidation at his home—a development that has sparked public outcry and drawn widespread condemnation from civil society groups and lawmakers, particularly from the Minority in Parliament. TESCON-KNUST Condemns Alleged Intimidation of Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Slams NDC Government’s Silence

The KNUST branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as an act of intimidation against Rev. Ntim Fordjour by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). The group has also criticized the NDC-led government for its silence in the wake of the incident. The incident, reportedly captured on video, involved NIB personnel visiting the private residence of Rev. Ntim Fordjour under unclear circumstances. TESCON-KNUST views this as an abuse of power and a clear attempt to silence a citizen for voicing concerns on national issues, particularly the ongoing controversy surrounding the unresolved airport cocaine saga. In a passionate statement signed by TESCON-KNUST President Godfred Akwasi Frimpong, the student group ...

NDC supporters must desist from illegal activities – Cadre

Mr. Camillus Maalneriba-Tia Sakzeesi, a National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Cadre, has condemned recent violent activities involving party supporters around the country, indicating that they must desist from such illegal practices. Mr. Sakzeeki, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said it was worrying to watch on television and hear in the news the illegal activities some NDC supporters were engaging in after the party won the 2024 elections. He said the supporters must recognise that the election was not won with only their votes, but rather it was the anger of Ghanaians that gave the NDC the victory, christening the win as “rebellious ballots.” He encouraged supporters who have evidence of wrongdoing to report to the relevant state security agencies instead of taking the la...

President directs IGP to investigate deaths of Ghanaians during 2020/2024 elections

President John Dramani Mahama has requested the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to initiate immediate investigations into the tragic deaths of Ghanaian citizens during the 2020/2024 general election. Dr Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, in a letter addressed to the IGP, said those incidents, which occurred in various parts of the country, had left a lasting scar on the nation's democratic process. It was, thus, imperative that justice was served for the victims and their families, it said. To ensure the investigations were comprehensive and transparent, government proposed the stablishment of a Dedicated Investigative Taskforce within the CID to focus solely on those cases, ensuring undivided attention and efficient handling of the matter....

Ablekuma-North: Presiding Officer lays down his tools, re-collation suspended

Mr Vincent Obeng, the Presiding Officer for the Ablekuma-North Constituency, says he cannot continue with the re-collation of the disputed parliamentary results due to "frustration" and chaos that has characterised the exercise.  The EC on Wednesday suspended the re-collation exercise for Ablekuma-North for the fifth consecutive time after hours of altercation over the validity of the statement of results sheets for the collation.   The results for three polling stations are outstanding.   The EC cannot declare the results unless the remaining three are verified and added to the tabulated results.  The Commission said it would communicate its next line of action in due course.  The EC has been relying on the scanned copies of the statement of re...

President Akufo-Addo orders security agencies to clamp down post-election disturbances

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the security agencies to work assiduously to clamp down on the disturbances following Ghana's recent December 7 General Election. The rule of law should prevail, he cautioned. "Those who might contemplate using violence to achieve their aims should know this. Our nation's peace is sacred, and it will not be sacrificed on the altar of ambition," the President noted in his Christmas message to the nation. He stated that the unnecessary acts of violence "has tarnished the otherwise exemplary democratic exercise", saying the Government would not countenance any action likely to disrupt the nation's peace and stability. The outgoing President stated that generally the country had achieved another monumental milestone in its developm...

Dozens of Ghana president-elect’s supporters arrested in post-poll chaos

Police have warned people against engaging in violence Police in Ghana have arrested more than 100 people - mostly opposition supporters of President-elect John Mahama - over acts of lawlessness. Supporters of the newly elected president who want jobs have allegedly attacked some state institutions, looted properties, and engaged in disturbances that have left some police and military personnel injured. The irate supporters also torched two electoral commission offices due to a delay in announcing the outcome of Saturday's elections and disagreements over some parliamentary results. Mahama has condemned the vandalism and called on President Nana Akufo-Addo and security agencies to "act decisively" in addressing the violence. Vice-President Bawumia, the defeated presidential ...

More jobs and no ‘nuisance taxes’ – Ghanaians’ great expectations

Ghana's former President John Mahama will be under enormous pressure to meet the expectations of voters following his landslide victory in Saturday's election.  He swept back to power after eight years in opposition, running what political analyst Nansata Yakubu described as a "masterclass" in campaigning.  He defeated Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia by 56.6% of votes to 41.6% to notch up the biggest margin of victory by a candidate in 24 years. But voter turnout was lower than in the 2020 election, especially in some of the heartlands of Bwaumia's New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting some people there - disillusioned with its performance in government - stayed at home.  As Mahama's supporters celebrated his victory, Belinda Amuzu - a teacher in the northern cit...
