President Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Savannah Region Development at Gonjaland Youth Association 50th Anniversary

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Government’s strong commitment to accelerating development in the Savannah Region as he joined the Gonjaland Youth Association to mark its 50th Anniversary celebration in Buipe.

The event brought together traditional leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders to reflect on five decades of youth mobilization and development advocacy in the Gonjaland area.

Addressing participants, President Mahama outlined key government interventions aimed at transforming the education sector in the region. He announced plans to establish Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) schools in Tinga and Busunu, expand infrastructure across Senior High Schools, and upgrade selected Category B schools to Category A status.

He emphasized the critical role of education in national development, describing it as a powerful tool for social and economic transformation. “Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be,” the President stated.

Beyond education, President Mahama also revealed plans for the construction of a modern sports stadium to boost youth development and sporting activities in the region.

In addition, he announced the rollout of 24-hour markets in every district, aimed at creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and expanding economic opportunities—particularly for young people.

The President’s remarks were well received by attendees, who welcomed the renewed focus on infrastructure development, education, and youth empowerment in the Savannah Region.

The anniversary celebration underscored the continued relevance of youth associations in driving regional development and civic engagement.
