President Mahama applauds Gomoa Assin people for peaceful Ahorbaa Kese festival

Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobia II, the Paramount Chief of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area and his people have been applauded for the peaceful celebration of the 2025 edition of the Ahorbaa Kese festival.

Mr Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, the Central Regional Minister, made the commendation in a keynote address he delivered on behalf of President John Dramani, at a colourful durbar to climax the 2025 Ahorbaa Kese festival held at Gomoa Assin in Gomoa West.

The durbar followed two-weeklong traditional rites, customs and social activities for the festival held on the theme: “Celebrating the heroism of Egya Ahor: uniting people of Gomoa for development,” to generate funds towards the construction of an ultra-modern Traditional Council complex.

It also saw the procession of chiefs, queen mothers, heads of families, and traditional groupings from all the 265 towns and villages in the traditional area, dressed in various rich regalia through the streets of Gomoa Assin Township, chanting war songs amidst dancing to the rhythms of ‘frontomfrom’ (a traditional drum) and brass band.

Obirifo Ankobia and other sub and divisional chiefs were carried in palanquins to the durbar ground to receive homage.

President Mahama said as a revered institution in society, there was the need for traditional rulers to handle the affairs of the area with their extraordinary expertise, to ensure the conservation of the customs and traditions of their people.

The President on behalf of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), thanked the people for embracing their message during the Election 2024 campaign and voting massively for the party to help reset the country.

He said the government under his leadership had initiated development projects for the area, which included road construction and establishment of an industrial hub to create an enabling environment to drive technology, innovation and business breakthroughs to attract both domestic and foreign investment to provide jobs for the youth.

He assured the people that participating businesses would be incentivised with capital, skilled human resources and streamlined regulations to thrive.

Mr Eduamoah called on the chiefs to get ready to make lands available for the establishment of these projects to help open the area to foster economic growth and innovation.

Obirifo Ankobia, appealed to his people to contribute towards the construction of an ultra-modern building for the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council, to accommodate all the chiefs and queens from the 165 towns and villages under the institution.

“My people, let us embrace the current wind that is blowing in the country and make sacrifices as Egya Ahor did, by contributing our quota wherever we are to complement what the government is executing, to reset the country for us the Gomoa people to have our full share of the national cake,” he said.

Amb. Prof. Hugh Keku Aryee, the Vanuatu’s Trade Commissioner to Ghana, who chaired the durbar, acknowledged the importance of the cultural bond between Vanuatu and Ghana.

He said festivals were not only a celebration of heritage but also an opportunity to strengthen unity and cohesion and to build resilience to forge ahead as one people for progress.

He hinted that the Vanuatu Trade Commission was committed to joining hands with both local and international stakeholders to promote initiatives that would enhance livelihoods, drive sustainable growth and development.

Nana Kumasa Krampa II, the Omankrado of Gomoa Asempanyin and Chairman of the festival planning committee, said a new chapter had been opened and it behoved on all to combine their rich expertise to make the Gomoa State one of the best in the country.
