The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following the circulation of a viral video showing the physical abuse of a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after swift investigations traced the incident to the community. One of the suspects, Grace Mensah, was arrested at Agona Jamasi. Further operations led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the video assaulting the child.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on 6th December 2025, after the victim reportedly left home and failed to return at the expected time. During police questioning, suspect Osei Akoto claimed he had authorization from the child’s grandmother to discipline her.

The victim, an 11-year-old girl, has since been rescued and is currently safe. Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigations and appropriate legal action.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and dealing decisively with all forms of abuse. Authorities have also encouraged the public to promptly report incidents of child abuse and domestic violence to help safeguard vulnerable persons in society.
