Inferno Ravages Kasoa New Market as 10 Fire Tenders Battle Blaze

A major fire outbreak swept through the Kasoa New Market earlier today, destroying several shops and triggering an extensive emergency response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Fire crews from the Kasoa and Weija stations were the first to arrive, supported by reinforcements from across the Greater Accra Region. Nearly ten fire tenders were deployed, including units from Legon, Madina, Dansoman, and the Flagstaff House (Jubilee House). All available fire pumps in Accra were mobilised to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Eyewitnesses and videos circulating on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising over the market as flames tore through sections of the busy commercial centre. Firefighting efforts continued into the evening, with personnel working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
No casualties have been reported so far. However, traders at the Kasoa New Market—an important economic hub in the Awutu Senya East Municipality—are feared to have suffered heavy losses as the extent of damage to shops and goods is still being assessed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are expected to begin once the situation is fully contained.
The incident adds to a series of market fires across Ghana, renewing public concern over fire safety in densely populated trading areas. Authorities have urged traders and the general public to remain vigilant and strictly observe fire safety measures.
