On the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana has made an additional donation of relief and reconstruction equipment to the Government of Jamaica as the Caribbean nation continues efforts to rebuild following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The donation includes construction equipment, air-conditioned tents, boats, outboard motors, medical supplies, water purification systems, as well as plumbing and electrical tools. The items are intended to support emergency response operations and accelerate reconstruction activities in affected communities across Jamaica.
The consignment was formally received on behalf of the Jamaican Government by the country’s Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Abena Johnson Smith, JP, who expressed appreciation for Ghana’s continued support and solidarity during the recovery process.

In a further demonstration of commitment, Ghana has approved a request from the Jamaican Government to extend “Operation Boafo” from its initial 30-day mandate to 90 days. The extension was granted by Ghana’s Commander-in-Chief, allowing Ghanaian personnel to remain on the ground to provide sustained humanitarian and technical assistance.
Government officials say the decision reflects a renewed direction in Ghana’s foreign policy, which now emphasizes solidarity, cooperation, and shared responsibility among nations.
“Ghana’s foreign policy will no longer be defined by how much we can take from others, but by how much we can share with others—particularly our friends in distress,” the statement noted.

The support to Jamaica underscores Ghana’s growing role in international humanitarian assistance and its commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations through practical and compassionate action.
