The Government of Ghana has confirmed that eight Ghanaian nationals have died following a jihadist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, on 14 February 2026.
According to official information, seven of the victims were members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association who were engaged in legitimate trading activities when the attack occurred. A previously injured victim, who had been receiving medical treatment after the incident, has since passed away, bringing the death toll to eight.
Government Condolences and Security Concerns

President John Mahama has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families, while strongly condemning the attack. Authorities described the incident as a tragic reminder of the growing security challenges in parts of the West African sub-region and reiterated calls for strengthened regional cooperation to combat violent extremism.
Medical Evacuation Efforts
On presidential instructions and following medical consultations, arrangements have been made for the air evacuation of injured Ghanaian nationals from Burkina Faso. The operation is being carried out by the Ghana Air Force, with the victims expected to arrive in Ghana for continued care. Diplomatic staff, including Ghana’s embassy officials in Burkina Faso, remain in close contact with affected citizens.
